Scots Wha Hae

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scots Wha Hae , actually Robert Bruce's March to Bannockburn (Bruce before Bannockburn) , written by Robert Burns , is one of Scotland's most popular poems and songs . It is a popular song and acts as one of Scotland's three unofficial national anthems alongside The Flower of Scotland and Scotland the Brave . The song refers to the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and allegedly reproduces Robert the Bruce's address to his army immediately before the actual battle against Edward II of England (son of "Edward the Longshanks").

"Scots Wha Hae" is the party song of the Scottish National Party . In the past, it was sung every year at the end of the annual national conference.

Original in Scots German translation
'Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome tae your gory bed,
Or tae Victorie!
Scots you bled with Wallace
Scots that Bruce led many times
Welcome to your place of blood,
Or to victory.
'Now's the day, and now's the hour:
See the front o 'battle lour,
See approach proud Edward's power -
Chains and Slavery!
Here is the day, now the hour;
See the front of the battle threaten;
See the proud Edward's force approach -
Chains and slavery!
'Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha will fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!
Who will be a traitor?
Who will fill a coward's grave?
Who's so low to be a slave?
Let him turn back and flee!
'Wha, for Scotland's king and law,
Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stood, or Freeman fa ',
Let him on wi 'me!
Who will be King and Law for Scotland?
Swing the sword of freedom vigorously,
The free man stand or the free man fall
Let him follow me!
'By Oppression's woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
With the sorrows and pains of oppression!
By your sons in chains of submission!
We'll empty our dearest veins
But they should be free!
'Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty's in every blow! -
Let us do or dee! '
Defeat the proud usurper!
Tyrants fall with every enemy!
Freedom is in every blow!
Let's do it or die!
