Fergusson or Ferguson is the name of a Scottish clan whose members are spread across Scotland .
history
The original son of Fergus, the progenitor of the Fergussons from whom the name comes, is unknown, but over time Kilkerran in Ayrshire established itself as the central location of the clan. Although the Fergussons could never agree on a common goal due to their dispersion and are therefore less known for military achievements, they nevertheless produced some well-known personalities, including the poet Robert Fergusson , who inspired the Scottish national poet Robert Burns , and the philosopher Adam Ferguson .
The motto of the clan is Dulcius ex asperis ("Sweeter after difficulties").
