Ruins of the Auchenbathie Tower

Auchinbathie Tower , rarely also Barcraigs Tower , is the ruin of a residential tower in the Scottish county of Renfrewshire . The building is also known locally as Auchanbothy .

The ruins of Auchanbathie Tower covered an area of 8.7 meters × 3.0-3.6 meters in 1856, but only part of the side walls have been preserved, which today still tower up to 5.1 meters. Inside the old walls was a small barn that was once used as a stable for cattle. The tower block belonged to the Wallace family from Elderslie in 1398 . The walls are continuous, although in most places no more than 1.2–1.5 meters high. A small part of the wall near the ruins of the old farmhouse has been removed.

Hewn stone from the old Tower Cottage

A hewn stone was found in a chimney of the old Tower Cottage , a farmhouse that was later built next to the residential tower and is now also in ruins. The stone bears the year 1678 and the letters "I C R C N C". This stone was once built into the interior of the middle farmhouse and could refer to the Cochrane family .
