Loch Duich ( Scottish Gaelic Loch Dubhthaich ) is a bay on the west coast of Scotland in the Northwest Highlands . In Scotland these bays are called sea lochs .
The Loch Duich is by the sea lochs Loch Alsh and Loch Long fed. The bay is approximately 8.5 kilometers long and on average 1.5 kilometers wide.
The famous Eilean Donan Castle is located on a small island in Loch Duich near the village of Dornie and is connected to the mainland by a stone footbridge.
The main road A87 runs for several kilometers along the northeastern bank.
history
Diarmaid's Grave is a stone setting on a headland. The basement of Allt an Inbhir is on the south side near Letterfearn. In 1719, many homesteads along the bay were burned to the ground by British forces just before the Battle of Glen Shiel began between British government forces and an alliance of Jacobites and Spaniards .
