Dornie ( Scottish Gaelic An Dòrnaidh ) is a small village in the Kintail area in the Northwest Highlands of the former county of Ross-shire in Scotland with around 360 inhabitants (2006 estimate). In the past, the inhabitants lived mainly from fishing.
Geographically, the place is near the confluence of Loch Duich , Loch Alsh and Loch Long . The well-known Eilean Donan Castle is located on a barrier island within sight of the place. The village itself mostly runs along the waterfront and consists of a large number of village houses, a small shop and a hotel.
The main road A87 to the Hebridean island of Skye leads directly past Dornie. Before the bridge was built, the road ran through the center of the village and traffic was handled with a ferry service across Loch Long .
The Dornie Ferry tune is a very well-known Strathspey among bagpipers .
