Boris Borissowitsch Grebenschtschikow (BG) ( Russian Борис Борисович Гребенщиков ; born November 27, 1953 in Leningrad , USSR ) is a Russian poet and musician and leader of the band Aquarium . Grebenschtschikow is considered the "grandfather" of Soviet rock and an idol of youth culture of the 1980s and 2000s.

Life

Grebenschtschikow attended until 1970 the " Physics and Mathematics - Gymnasium No. 239" in Leningrad. Together with Anatoli Gunizki, he founded the band Aquarium , which still exists today, in the summer of 1972 , which was initially little known, rarely gave short concerts in other cities and produced domestic recordings. 1977 Grebenchtschikow graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of St. Petersburg State University and began to work in a research institution ; on the side he continued to write lyrics, performed with the band and founded the first rock journal of the USSR "Roksi" with the "experimental student theater of the State University". Inspired by Bob Dylan , he recorded the album Все братья - сёстры ("All Brothers - Sisters") in the summer of 1978 .

After appearing at the first Soviet rock festival in Tbilisi in April 1980 , Grebenschtschikow was expelled from the Komsomol (joined in 1967) and released from his research work. The band Aquarium was officially banned in the Soviet Republic . The band became a member of the Leningrad Rock Club in 1981 and participated in the first five festivals . In 1982 Grebenschtschikow produced, in cooperation with the band Zoopark, the first album for the rock group Kino , 45 . In 1988 Grebenschtschikow was on the album В круге света (W kruge sweta, "In the circle of light") of the band Maschina Wremeni . In 1989 he recorded the English-language album Radio Silence with David A. Stewart of the Eurythmics .

At the beginning of the 1990s, he stopped working at Aquarium ^1.0 , while Grebenschtschikow founded his own “BG band” between 1991 and 1992, and from 1993 continued at Aquarium ^2.0 .

In January 1998 Grebenchtschikow won the "Triumph" prize and two years later on September 23, 2000 he was awarded the St. Petersburg Prize "People of Our City" (Ljudi naschego goroda, Russian Люди нашего города ). On April 7, 2001 the rock magazine “FUZZ” awarded him a prize for the development of rock music and the radio station Nasche radio honored the band Aquarium and BG with the award “PoboRoll” ( Russian ПобоРолл ) for their contribution to the development of music.

A concert was held in the Kremlin to mark Grebenshchikov's 50th birthday in 2003 and in the same year he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the fourth class. From May 2005 Grebenchtschikow moderated the radio station Radio Rossii . In 2006 he was operated on because of poor eyesight. On May 21, 2007 he performed with his band at the Royal Albert Hall in London . On January 8, 2009, Grebenschtschikow received a coronary artery bypass in Berlin .

His father Boris Alexandrowitsch Grebenschtschikow was an engineer by profession and worked as a director in a factory, he died in 1975. The mother Lyudmila Kharitonovna Grebenchtschikowa and the grandmother Ekaterina Vasilyevna survived the Leningrad blockade , during which the grandfather and great-grandfather died.

The first wife Natalja Kozlowskaja married Boris Grebenschtschikow in 1976 and in 1978 his daughter Alissa was born, who is now an actress. Because of a scandal in Tbilisi in 1980 , the marriage broke up. His daughter Alissa gave birth to a boy named Alexei in 2008 and married the child's father that same year. The second wife Lyudmila Shurigina was the partner of cellist Vsevolod Gakkel from the band Aquarium before marriage . Boris and Lyudmila married in 1980 and they gave birth to their son, Gleb, on February 14, 1985. Gleb now has a daughter named Alissa and is known by the name “DJ give”. The third wife is called Irina and was previously married to Alexander Titow, the bass player in the band Aquarium. Boris and Irina married in 1991 and raised their children together, Mark Titow and Wasilissa Grebenschtschikowa, who came from their mother's first marriage. Mark is musically involved in several independent bands and composes electronic music under the pseudonym "Bio C". Wasilissa is an artist.

In the early 1990s, Grebenchtschikow was seriously interested in Buddhism and for a long time collected miraculous icons .

In Malaysia in 2006 he met the Indian emigrant Sri Chinmoy , who later referred to him as “Purushottama”, which means something like “cross-border”. Chinmoy's support enabled him to give a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London and a solo concert at the United Nations in 2007 , accompanied by Sri Chinmoy's students. In Sri Chinmoy's name, the "Aquarium International" project was launched, in which several dozen musicians worldwide took part.

Grebenschtschikow has translated two books by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche into Russian and is currently working on the translation of the Bhagavad Gita .
