Kino ( Russian Кино [ kʲɪˈnɔ ]) was a Russian rock band led by the charismatic singer Viktor Zoi . Even after his death, they had a large following in Russia and the successor states of the Soviet Union . With their New Wave style, they are - together with the bands Aquarium and DDT - important exponents of Russian rock music of the perestroika era and, in the general sense, of modern Russian pop music .
history
Foundation and advancement
The band's name first appeared in 1981. Two young musicians, Wiktor Zoi and Alexei Rybin founded a band under the name Garin i giperboloidy ( Гарин и Гиперболоиды ), which a few months later was renamed "Kino". In 1982 they recorded their first album together with the musicians from Aquarium ( Аквариум ) and Zoopark ( Зоопарк ) . After a few appearances, the band disbanded.
In 1984 the band formed anew. The line-up now looks like this: Wiktor Zoi ( Виктор Цой ) - guitar , vocals ; Yuri Kasparian ( Юрий Каспарян ) - guitar; Alexander Titow ( Александр Титов ) - electric bass and Georgi "Gustaw" Gurjanow ( Георгий "Густав" Гурьянов ) - drums .
A few months after the "rebirth", Kino appears with a new program at the rock festival in Leningrad and causes a sensation there. In the same year the band brought out the album The Kamchatka Boss ( Начальник Камчатки ) and then went on tour. In 1986 Titov left the band and was replaced by Igor Tichomirow ( Игорь Тихомиров ).
In the years that followed, Kino recorded several albums and became one of the most popular and popular rock bands in the Soviet Union. In 1989, Kino plays in France and Denmark and then goes on tour throughout the USSR .
resolution
At the height of her career, after concerts in sold-out stadiums, the front man Zoi had a fatal accident in his car after shooting in Latvia . The rest of the band used the vocal recordings that Zoi had on a cassette in his car and had survived the accident unscathed to complete the album they had started. The album, which was released under the name Black Album in honor of Zoi's name , was an enormous success and cemented Zoi's position as a youth idol and rock star. Memorial walls were dedicated to him in several places in the countries of the ex- USSR .
comeback
On October 11, 2019, Kino announced that it would reunite after 30 years. Two concerts will take place in autumn 2020.
