DDT ( Russian ДДТ ) is a Russian rock band . It was founded in 1981 in Ufa by Yuri Shevchuk , her lead singer . With their singer-songwriter style, they are, together with the bands Aquarium and Kino , major exponents of Russian rock music of the perestroika era and, in the general sense, of modern Russian pop music .

When it was founded, the group consisted of:

  • Yuri Shevchuk (Юрий Юлианович Шевчук) - vocals, guitar
  • Wladimir Sigachev (Владимир Сигачёв) - keyboard
  • Rustem Assanbayev (Рустем Асанбаев) - guitar
  • Gennady Rodin (Геннадий Родин) - bass
  • Rustam Karimov (Рустам Каримов) - drums

history

In 1982 the Komsomolskaya Pravda announced a competition for young musicians, titled Solotoj Kamerton ( Золотой Камертон ) (German: Golden Tuning Fork ). DDT sent three compositions to "Inoplanetjane ( Инопланетяне )." (Dt aliens ), "Tschornoje Solnze ( Чёрное солнце )" (dt. Black Sun ) and "Ne streljai ( Не стреляй )" (dt. Do not shoot ).

During the ongoing competition, the band released their first album (on tape). "Swinja na raduge ( Свинья на радуге )" ( Eng . The pig on the rainbow ). This album contains elements of rock 'n' roll , blues and country music . At that time, Russian pop music was divided into official artists, who were allowed to join the official music union and received state support, and unofficial artists. Unofficial artists were mostly well trained musicians, but they were in other professions (the proverbial “generation of caretakers and guards”). In the 1980s, complex distribution networks for tapes emerged and unofficial artists were able to achieve wide reception (without financial compensation) in this way (see also samizdat ). Such underground artists have often become well known and their unofficial albums have even been featured in the official press at times. In the 1980s, DDT was always on the edge between underground and legal status. However, the group was only able to publish underground.

The compositions sent in by DDT to "Solotoj Kamerton" reached the final round and the band was invited to Moscow , where they performed in the "Orljonok complex ( Орлёнок Комплекс )" together with the group "Rok-sentjabr ( Рок-сентябрь )" (dt . Rock September ) from Cherepovets , gave a concert. Together with three members of "Rock-September", Vyacheslav Korbin, Evgeni Belosjorow and Andrei Maslennikow, DDT recorded an album (on tape) a short time later: "Monologue w Saigone ( Монолог в Сайгоне )" (German monologue in / im Saigon ; ambiguous: the café on the corner of Newski and Vladimir Prospect with the unofficial scene name “Saigon” was an important meeting place for underground artists in Leningrad in the 1980s). After the album was recorded, Sigachev and Shevchuk returned to Ufa. Sigachev distanced himself from the band, while Shevchuk picked up new members. In addition to Rodin, the drummer Sergei Rudogo, the guitarist Rustam Reswanow and the keyboard player Wladislaw Strotschillo.

In May 1983 DDT performed with great success in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium as part of the three-day festival "Rock sa mir ( Рок за мир )" ( Rock for peace ). However, your contribution was cut from the official TV program about this event.

After their reshuffle, the group released the album "Periferija ( Периферия )" (Eng. Periphery ) in 1984 . After this release, some of the band members were contacted and guarded by the KGB . Shevchuk spent some time in Sverdlovsk , where he performed with the band Urfin Juice (Russian Urfin Dschus ( Урфин Джус ) ). In November 1985, DDT released the album "Vremja (Время)" (German time ) in Sverdlovsk . In 1986, Shevchuk moved to Leningrad with his wife, son and mother.

In 1987, Shevchuk reorganized DDT again. The new members were:

  • Nikita Saizew ( Никита Зайцев ) - violin
  • Vadim Kuryljow ( Вадим Курылёв ) - bass
  • Andrei Wassiljew ( Андрей Васильев ) - guitar
  • Igor Dozenko ( Игорь Доценко ) - drums
  • Andrei Muratow ( Андрей Муратов ) - keyboard
  • Mikhail Chernov ( Михаил Чернов ) - saxophone

In June 1987, DDT performed at the Leningrad Rock Festival, where they played in front of 3,000 people, although the concert was only allowed for 1,000 people. In the summer of 1988 DDT made a tour through the USSR and recorded a new album: "Ottepel ( Оттепель )" (Eng. Thaw ). In 1989 DDT went on a tour with the band Alisa , which also took them to Hungary . In 1990 DDT performed several concerts in the United States and Japan . They also performed at a concert in honor of Viktor Zoi . In 1991 the group released two albums: "Plastun ( Пластун )" (German Schleicher ) and "Aktrissa Wesna ( Актриса Весна )" (German actress spring ).

Then the group changed their performance strategy and added other programs to their repertoire: well-prepared, concept-related concerts. Between December 1992 and January 1993 DDT presented its first program: "Tschorny Pjos Peterburg ( Чёрный пёс Петербург )" (German Black Dog Petersburg ) and started a tour through the CIS countries . On May 27, 1993, 120,000 people attended a DDT concert on Palace Square in Saint Petersburg. In the summer of 1994 DDT took part in the “White Nights Concert” in Berlin . In the autumn of the same year the group received the "Ovazija Prize" for the best rock group of the year in Russia. Yuri Shevchuk was recognized as the best Russian rock musician of the year. At the beginning of 1995 the next album was recorded: "Eto wsjo ... ( Это всё ... )" ( Eng . That's all ... ). In January of this year, Shevchuk went on a peace tour to Chechnya . He performed at 50 events with Russian troops and in Chechen cities. Between the end of 1995 and 1996 DDT worked in the USA, where she recorded her album "Lyubow ( Любовь )" (Eng. Love ) at Long View Farm in Massachusetts . New musicians joined them: I. Tichomirow and D. Galizki (keyboard).
