Yuri Shevchuk Yulianovich ( Russian Юрий Юлианович Шевчук ;. Scientific transliteration Jurij Julianovič Sevcuk * 16th May 1957 in Yagodnoye , Oblast Magadan , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian singer , musician , poet , composer , producer and actor . He became known as the founder and song singer of the rock band founded in the Bashkir capital UfaDDT , which was one of the most famous bands of the Soviet underground in the 1980sand is still very popular today.

Shevchuk is one of the most famous rock musicians and singers in Russia and at the same time a committed critic of Vladimir Putin's government . In 2008 he took part in the March of the Dissatisfied . The television broadcast of a discussion between Putin and Shevchuk at a reception in St. Petersburg in May 2010 , where the musician demanded that the freedom rights of dissenters in Russia be upheld, received international attention .

Shevchuk lives and works today (2011) in Saint Petersburg.
