Headland of stonework

Diarmaid's Grave ( Scottish Gaelic Uaigh Diarmaid ) is a stone setting on a headland at the inner end of Loch Duich near the old rectory at Kintail at Inverinate in the Scottish Highlands .

The north-west-south-east oriented stone setting forms two parallel rows of about 9.0 m in length 2.5 m apart. William Lockhart Bogle (1857-1900), who visited the stone setting in the 1890s, identified 20 large stones about 2.0 meters in length, five of which were subsequently removed. In 1974, 13 of the stones were visible. In 2007, however, 15 stones were identified again, partly covered by the vegetation.

Lockhart Bogle reported a local tradition at the end of the 20th century, according to which the stones are the grave of the legendary hero Diarmaid, but which is located in many places.

Canmore assumed that the complex is a Viking or ship grave , since the stone setting of Rubha Langanes on the island of Canna was originally thought to be a Viking grave .

A little to the south is the hill fort "Dunan Diarmaid" and to the east the rock carvings "Croe Bridge, Lienassie and Tigh Geal".
