Peter Zencke is a German mathematician , manager and was a board member of SAP AG until December 31, 2008 . There he was head of the Research and Breakthrough Innovation division and was also responsible for SAP's global research network .

Peter Zencke grew up as the eldest son of the Bonn business journalist Hans-Henning Zencke in the Godesberg district of Plittersdorf . After graduating from high school in 1971, he studied mathematics and economics and received his doctorate in 1980 at the University of Bonn . In 1982 he became an assistant professor at the University of Trier , where he designed the reorganization of a course in business mathematics. In 2011, Peter Zencke was appointed honorary professor for business administration and business informatics at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Würzburg .

In 1984 Zencke joined SAP and initially worked in the areas of systems analysis, consulting and training. From 1988 to 1992 he was head of application development for the SAP R / 3 project and helped SAP achieve its worldwide breakthrough as a software company. In 1993 he was appointed to the Executive Board of SAP AG. In addition, he was responsible for expanding SAP's business in the Asia-Pacific region. During his SAP years, Zencke managed a. a. the area of ​​application platform and architecture and coordinated research and the SAP labs. He was largely responsible for the development of the mySAP Business Suite but also for the areas of SAP CRM and SAP Retail. On January 1, 2009, he left SAP as Chief Innovation Officer at his own request.

Other functions

Zencke is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad and of the Research Advisory Board of the Institute of Media and Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen . He is honorary professor at the University of Würzburg and the University of St. Gallen. He was also chairman of the board of trustees of the SAP Business School in Vienna until it closed in 2009.
