The MeVis Medical Solutions AG , headquartered in Bremen is a listed manufacturer of software products for image-based medicine with a focus on disease-oriented clinical applications ; since 2015 the company has been part of the US company Varian Medical Systems .

history

The company's origins go back to 1992, when the Center for Complex Systems and Visualization (CeVis) was founded. The mathematician Heinz-Otto Peitgen was initially managing director of MeVis - Center for Medical Diagnostic Systems and Visualization from 1995 and later, until 2015, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MeVis Medical Solutions AG.

MeVis Medical Solutions was founded to develop and market commercial products for medical diagnosis based on the results of scientific research. In 1997, MeVis Technology GmbH was established, which in 2007 merged with MeVis BreastCare GmbH (founded in 2001), MeVis Diagnostics GmbH (2002) and MeVis Distant Services (2004). In the same year the name was changed to MeVis Medical Solutions AG (MMS) and the company went public. In 2017, MMS employed around 90 people.

Holdings

There is a joint venture with Siemens Healthcare GmbH : MeVis Medical Solutions holds 51% of MeVis BreastCare KG, Siemens has 49%.

Business activity

MeVis Medical Solutions develops software for the analysis and evaluation of image data and markets this to manufacturers of medical products and providers of medical IT platforms. The clinical focus is on the image-based early detection and diagnosis of epidemiologically significant diseases, such as breast , lung and liver cancer as well as neurological diseases.

The software applications support many imaging processes that are used . This includes not only X-ray based procedures such as computed tomography , digital mammography or digital tomosynthesis, but also magnetic resonance tomography (magnetic resonance tomography), digital sonography and the simultaneous use of several procedures ( multimodality ).

Research and Development

There is a collaboration with research institutes such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS , which primarily provide the research services, while MeVis takes on the development of software applications.

VMS Deutschland Holdings, a German subsidiary of Varian Medical Systems, submitted a public takeover offer to all shareholders of MeVis Medical Solutions on January 27, 2015, whereby a payment of EUR 17.50 per share was offered. The holding company was then able to implement a planned profit and loss transfer and control agreement . This was closed for an indefinite period of time and has the consequence that the general meeting does not approve a dividend . Instead, the remaining shareholders will receive an annual compensation payment of 1.13 euros gross.
