Franz Eduard von Scott

Jakob Franz Eduard von Scott , actually James Francis Edward Scott (born July 4, 1730 in Auchtydonald near Aberdeen in Scotland , † May 29, 1803 in Spandau ), was a Prussian major general from Scotland and commander of the Spandau Citadel .

Life

origin

He came from the Scottish clan Scott and was a son of Willian Scott, Laird of Auchtydonald in Aberdeenshire , and his wife Helena, nee Rankin. He was a direct descendant of Walter Scott of Harden († 1629).

Military career

After the turmoil of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, Scott first volunteered in the British Navy in 1747 . In 1749 he changed to Prussian services and came as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Prince of Prussia" . There he became ensign on May 25, 1752 and second lieutenant on December 26, 1756 . During the Seven Years' War , Scott became captain and company commander until April 18, 1764 .

He fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession and received the order Pour le Mérite on June 4, 1779 for the battle near Neustadt in Upper Silesia. On August 5, 1779 he was promoted to major , on August 5, 1781 battalion commander and on May 27, 1788 commander of Spandau, which earned him a salary of 1000 thalers. On June 25, 1789 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , on June 2, 1791 to colonel and on February 1, 1796 to major general.

After his death, Scott was buried on May 31, 1803 in the garrison cemetery in Spandau.
