3rd submarine flotilla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 3rd Submarine Flotilla , or 3rd U-Flotilla for short , was a naval association of the former German Navy .

history

The flotilla was set up on October 4, 1937 and stationed in Kiel . It was named "Lohs" submarine flotilla in honor of Oberleutnant zur See Johannes Lohs , a submarine commander of the First World War . The name was retained until the flotilla was first disbanded in December 1939.

In March 1941 the 3rd submarine flotilla was reorganized, received the status of a front flotilla and was initially stationed in Kiel until September 1941. The flotilla was then moved to the newly built submarine bunker in La Pallice in France , where it stayed from October 1941 to October 1944.
