Carl Otto Ludwig Theodat, Freiherr von und zu Gymnich , (* 1715 ; † 1785 ) was President of the Court Council and First Minister of State at the Electoral Court of Bonn . He came from the Rhenish town of Gymnich , now part of Erftstadt .

Life

Carl Otto Ludwig Theodat was born as the son of Maximilian Heinrich Freiherr von und zu Gymnich and his wife Maria Franziska, Freiin von Loë zu Wissen , who worked as a councilor and senior silver resident at the Electoral Cologne court . In 1738 he married Katharina Elisabeth Maria, Freiin von Franckenstein zu Ockstatt , with whom he had eight children. Through his father he owned the family palace at Gymnich Castle in Gymnich as well as several lands: one third of Kleeberg , Rheindorf and Dürboslar . In the course of his life he himself acquired the Vischel , Neurath , Nörvenich , Satzvey and Laurensberg lands . In Bonn he owned the Gymnicher Hof on Vierecksplatz as a city ​​palace (today Berliner Freiheit ), in Cologne he owned the Gymnicher Hof on Neumarkt .

Under Elector Clemens August , Carl Otto Ludwig Theodat first became Vice President and from 1753 President of the Court Council . His successor Maximilian Friedrich appointed him First Minister of State in 1784, which he succeeded to the so-called almighty minister Caspar Anton von Belderbusch . Since 1779 Carl Otto Ludwig Theodat was also a Privy Councilor , President of the War Council , Director of the Jülischen Knighthood and Oberamtmann zu Liedberg. He was one of the first members of Freemasonry in Bonn .

He married Katharina Elisabeth von und zu Frankenstein. The couple had two sons:

  • Carl Anton Ferdinand (1749–1773)
