Neurath is the southernmost place in the city of Grevenbroich in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Geographical location

Together with Frimmersdorf , it forms the border between the Rhine district of Neuss and the administrative district of Düsseldorf to the neighboring Rhein-Erft district ( administrative district of Cologne ).

history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1253. The oldest parts of the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Lambertus date from the 12th century. Gut Nanderath was first mentioned in a document in 1465 . Neurath was part of the Grevenbroich office in the Duchy of Jülich until 1794 . In 1794 the place was occupied by French soldiers and the Commune Neurath was formed, which belonged to Mairie Frimmersdorf and was thus part of the canton of Elsen . In 1815 the municipality of Neurath was born in county Grevenbroich in the administrative district of Dusseldorf in the Prussian Rhine Province .

Around 1880 Neurath had 680 inhabitants in 145 houses and six farms, which mainly worked in agriculture . Due to the accidental discovery of lignite when a well was being built in 1858, the town grew with the lignite industry in the Neurath open-cast mine . On July 1, 1969, the independent communities of Frimmersdorf and Neurath merged to form the new community of Frimmersdorf. Neurath has been part of the city of Grevenbroich since January 1st, 1975.

Neurath and Frimmersdorf are growing closer and closer together today. Almost all clubs, such as B. the soccer club SG Frimmersdorf / Neurath, as well as the elementary school and the kindergarten are operated together. New development areas are planned in the coming years, which will allow the towns to grow closer together.

Half-timbered house in the center of Neurath

One of the oldest half-timbered houses in Neurath (built around 1800) is located in the middle of Neurath next to the church. This has been completely restored and is now in excellent condition, which is a small optical attraction in Neurath.

Economy and Infrastructure

In the Neurath area is the Neurath power plant , which was expanded in 2012 by two further units (“BoA 2 and 3”). Next to the power plant there is a greenhouse park with an area of ​​11 hectares for the cultivation of tomatoes, which is operated with district heating from the power plant. Around Neurath there are also systems for the generation of regenerative energy such as the photovoltaic system on Lake Neurath and the wind farm on the Neurath Kippe. Both plants were included in the Energy Road as exemplary .

Neurath is conveniently located on the Energiestraße (L 375) (connection to the A 46 motorway towards Düsseldorf / Aachen and the B 59 towards Cologne) and the L 116 (connection to the A 61 motorway towards Venlo / Koblenz). The bus lines 891 and 865 stop at three stops in town.

As part of the reclamation of lignite - opencast Neurather Nord in the Rhenish lignite mining area a conservation area has been with the Lake Neurath created. The Neurath Kippe was also created in the course of recultivation. Both recultivations are ideal for hiking and cycling.

The "Bobbolandia" children's amusement park is located on the site of the former Neurath wave swimming pool. This was opened in June 2015. As a pirate land, the area was equipped with numerous climbing frames and play equipment. The former swimming pools have also been integrated into the park. Before that, after more than ten years of vacancy, the site was converted into a fishing park. Then a group of artists used the premises.

The Neurath Citizens' Rifle Club is firmly integrated into village life. This organizes numerous festivals in the village and celebrates its annual shooting festival on the second weekend in September. One of the highlights in the village is the Klompenumzug on Schützenfest Monday. People come from far and wide to see the parade. It now consists of 50 trains and is therefore the largest Klompenumzug in the area.

In the immediate vicinity of Neurath there is also a golf course and a motocross track.

The volunteer fire brigade is also integrated into village life and has a long tradition . The Neurath unit was founded in 1932 and had its fire station under the Neurath house. On March 1, 2014, the unit from Neurath was merged with the unit from Frimmersdorf. The common fire station is now on Frankenstrasse. From here the fire brigade is moving out together as the new Frimmersdorf-Neurath unit.
