Münchrath (Grevenbroich)

Münchrath is a village in the city of Grevenbroich and in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The village of Münchrath is located near the northern city limits of Grevenbroich to the city of Neuss . To the north of Münchrath is the Erft and the village of Helpenstein , to the east the Strategische Bahndamm and to the south the town of Hülchrath . To the west of Münchrath is the small village of Gruissem, but on the other bank of the Erft.

history

A very important archaeological site from the Neolithic Age lies north of Münchrath. The village of Münchrath was probably founded around the year 816 by monks of the Werden monastery. In the Middle Ages, Münchrath belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office of Hülchrath . In 1794 French troops occupy the place. Münchrath came to the Mairie Hülchrath in the Département de la Roer . In 1815 Münchrath came to the Kingdom of Prussia . A year later, the mayor's office Hülchrath was formed, to which Münchrath also belonged. In 1929 the municipality of Hülchrath came to the district of Grevenbroich-Neuss and was renamed the municipality of Neukirchen. On December 31, 1974, the Neukirchen community was dissolved and on January 1, 1975, Münchrath was incorporated into the city of Grevenbroich.
