history

middle Ages

Neukirchen is classified as an early historical settlement area and was first verifiably mentioned in 1081. The development of the settlement in the Middle Ages is probably due to the good loess soils and the favorable location to important trade routes . Located on the Gillbach just before its confluence with the Erft , the community of Neukirchen extends far across the fertile loess plate and the damp Erft valley .

The oldest settlements are Rüblinghoven (793 Hrotbertingahova, today Wüst), Speck and Wehl (817 Weldi), where the main courtyard of a villication of the Werden Abbey was located. The Erftaue was settled from here: Helpenstein , Münchrath , Mühlrath , Hülchrath . Neukirchen belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office of Hülchrath , with the exception of Hoisten (originally Hovesteden), which was a Jülich enclave (as a former Helpenstein property). The Hülchrath court initially had its gallows on the Neukircher Heide, but later on the city limits near Rosellen.

Modern times

In 1794 Neukirchen was occupied by French troops. Neukirchen now belongs to the municipality of Hülchrath in the canton of Zons . In 1815 Neukirchen came to the Kingdom of Prussia and was assigned to the Jülich-Kleve-Berg Province , which later became part of the Rhine Province . Since 1816 Neukirchen belonged to the mayor's office of Hülchrath and to the Grevenbroich district . In 1909 the mayor's office was relocated from Hülchrath to Neukirchen, although the associated municipality was originally named after Hülchrath and was only given the name of the new official seat in 1929. The local town hall is now privatized and houses a law firm. The Hülchrath court initially had its gallows on the Neukircher Heide , but later on the city limits near Neuss- Rosellen. Haus Horr has been preserved as a noble residence from the 18th century.

The district has continued to grow dynamically, especially since the 2010s until today. Most of the work on Neuhäuser Weg has been completed. Another new building area in the area of the swimming pool is already under construction. The new development area on Hülchrather Straße is being planned for the next few years.

Incorporation

Since the regional reform on January 1st, 1975, Neukirchen belongs to Grevenbroich and no longer has its own mayor's seat. The localities of Neukirchen belonged to: Neukirchen, Gubisrath , Hülchrath , Münchrath , Mühlrath , Hoisten , Speck , Wehl and Helpenstein .

The strategic embankment

In Neukirchen and Hülchrath, the railway embankment or strategic embankment is the name given to the project of a railway line from Neuss to Bergheim. The dam and bridges were completed, but inflation caused funding to get out of hand until 1924 so that construction was suspended forever. Today the embankment is a local recreation area with an important networking function for the regional biotopes. Since the “Decentralized State Garden Show 2005”, the railway embankment has also housed the “Culture Path” from Hombroich to Sinsteden with steles created by Ulrich Rückriem .
