history

Neubrück Mill around 1930
Neubrücker Erftbrücke 1898 (built 1728)

The village of Neubrück emerged from the watermill of the same name on the Erft. This mill belonged to the Dyck lordship and was built in 1678. In 1956 it was shut down.

As the name shows, the small town owes its name to the construction of a "new" bridge over the Erft.

The first evidence of this is from 1644. At that time, the Dycker road toll, which was levied in chapels, did not generate any income because the Neubrück was broken off and the road and pass to Hülchrath were blocked. That was probably one of the Electorate of Cologne Verteiligungsmaßnahme country castle Hülchrath during the Thirty Years' War .

The bridge must have been rebuilt quickly after the war because the customs fees were soon flowing again. In 1678 Dyck moved this customs post to the Neuerbrücken, but Kurköln successfully demanded its abolition.

As the name suggests, the new bridge, which was demolished in 1644, had a predecessor. However, so far no news has emerged about this.

In February 1945 the Erftbrücke was blown up by German soldiers to stop advancing Allied (American) soldiers. After the Second World War , the bridge could be temporarily rebuilt.

At the end of the 1970s, the bridge was torn down and rebuilt in its current form (two-lane traffic routing including cycle and pedestrian path).
