Hemmerden is a place in the town of Grevenbroich in the Rhine district of Neuss in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The village of Hemmerden borders in the west on the village of Bedburdyck , which belongs to the town of Jüchen , in the north on the town of Korschenbroich and in the east on chapels . The former municipality of Hemmerden had an area of ​​10.19 km². In 1974 228 people lived in one km².

history

The origin of the place name goes back to the Hamarithi forest , which was in the 9th century on the lower reaches of the Erft. At that time Hemmerden was part of the Nievenheim district . Characteristic for this area were small settlements that arose on cleared areas and were surrounded by forests. As early as the 13th century, a "parish Hemmerden" was mentioned in writing in a document, so that at that time a corresponding settlement existed. In this document from 1290, the "Count Adolf von Berg" releases the goods sold by "Johann von Benrode" to "Rudolf von der Dyck" in the parish of Hemmerden from the feudal association.

This document also proves the ownership of goods in the Hemmerden area by the gentlemen “von der Dyck” around 1290. Until 1794 Hemmerden belonged politically to the imperial rule Dyck . In 1794 French revolutionary troops conquered the place and the Mairie Dyck was created. 1815 this came to the Kingdom of Prussia own municipality in 1816 formed Hemmerden circle Grevenbroich in the administrative district of Dusseldorf . Together with the municipality of Kapellen, Hemmerden formed the Hemmerden mayor , which has been known as the Hemmerden Office since 1927 . The last mayor of Hemmerden was Bernhard Steinhäuser (CDU), his deputy was Josef Schlösser (SPD). Hemmerden has been part of Grevenbroich since January 1st, 1975.
