St. Martinus at Bedburdyck

Archaeological finds are known from prehistoric and Roman times. The place, which was known as Bedbur or Bedebur until 1567, had its own court court and a castle community of free people who had equal rights with the courtiers. The judge was Herr von Dyck, who later gave the place its supplemented name and who also held sovereignty. In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the area around Bedburdyck. Bedburdyck became a mairie in the canton of Elsen in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . In 1815 the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1816 the community of Bedburdyck was established, which became part of the Grevenbroich district .

church

Catholic Church St. Martinus : In 1351 Konrad V. von Dyck gave the church patronage to the Cologne Cathedral monastery, but in the 15th century it was back with the von Dyck family. The old church, which was badly damaged in the Truchsessian War, was added to the standing tower from the second half of the 12th century by Franz Wilhelm von Dyck in 1773. In front of the tower a small vestibule - which is colloquially called "Stessener Kapellchen" - was placed.

Public facilities

The community of Bedburdyck and the district of Gierath had a primary school, the Lindenschule Jüchen, and Bedburdyck also had two youth homes (Protestant and Catholic), two kindergartens, a community hall, a tennis club, a bakery and, together with Gierath, a sports and sports center Football club.
