Spenrath was a district of the former municipality of Jüchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The original village Alt-Spenrath had the Garzweiler of RWE Power soft. At the end of June 2010 there were still three residents living here. The place has been completely depopulated since March 2012. Most of the residents moved to Neu-Spenrath .

geography

Planned mining area Garzweiler II

The completely devastated Alt-Spenrath was bordered by Otzenrath in the north , by the village of Pesch in the south, by the village of Immerath in the south-west , and by Borschemich in the north-west . All neighboring towns of Alt-Spenrath are also located in the future mining area of the Garzweiler opencast mine and will therefore also be relocated and demolished.

history

The village was first mentioned as Spenrode in 1398 . In 1650 10 families lived here. In the 19th century a large estate was built on Baumstrasse. In 1836 a windmill was built on the Wegstern between Spenrath and Pesch. In 1893 it got a steam drive and later an electric motor. In 1926 the mill collapsed.

The demolition work in the village began in June 2007. First, the houses in Baumstrasse, the western part of Spenrath, were demolished. At this point the place had already been completely relocated; only the Spenrath estate at the western end was still inhabited. This was also used for agriculture until the summer of 2013. Most of the residents of Spenrath have moved to Neu-Spenrath. In mid-2013, the last building in Spenrath, the Gutshof, was demolished.
