Gierath is a village in the town of Jüchen in the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Gierath is east of Jüchen and north of Grevenbroich . The federal motorway 46 runs south . Villages in the vicinity are Bedburdyck , Gubberath and Stessen.

history

Gierath was part of the Duchy of Jülich-Berg . In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the area around Gierath, which was then part of the Mairie Bedburdyck in the canton of Elsen in the arrondissement of Cologne in the Département de la Roer .

In 1815 Gierath became Prussian and joined the mayor's office in Bedburdyck.

Gierath has been part of the Aachen diocese since 1930 .

Since the municipal reorganization , which came into force on January 1, 1975, Gierath has been part of Jüchen. Before that the place belonged to Bedburdyck.
