Barrenstein is a village in the town of Grevenbroich in the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Barrenstein is located in the southeast of the city of Grevenbroich. In the southeast is the village of Rommerskirchen - Oekoven . The Cologne -Grevenbroich- Mönchengladbach railway line and the town of Allrath are in the southwest .
history
Barrenstein has been part of the Grevenbroich office in the Duchy of Jülich since the Middle Ages . In 1794 it was occupied by French troops and Barrenstein became part of the Mairie Grevenbroich in the canton of Elsen in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . After 1815 the community of Barrenstein was established, which belonged to the Grevenbroich district and since 1929 to the Grevenbroich-Neuss district . In 1931 the small community was incorporated into the city of Grevenbroich.

A railway museum is located south of Barrenstein in Rommerskirchen- Oekoven .

- Chapel of St. Nicholas : The late Gothic chapel was built in 1495 and extended to the west in 1842. It served as the rectorate church until 1975. The interior of the chapel is from the 18th century. The building was restored in 1976. The new church has been located right next to it since 1975.
