Robert Kovács

Robert Kovács (* 1976 in Zalaegerszeg , Hungary ) is a Hungarian church musician and concert organist .

Kovács learned to play the piano from the age of five and took his first organ lessons at the age of eleven. In 1994 he graduated from the Conservatory in Budapest and won the first prize at the Organ Festival for young organists in Hungary.

Kovács studied at the Vienna University of Music trays church music and organ u. a. with Hans Haselböck and Peter Planyavsky and graduated with honors. In addition, he received the Award of Merit BMBWK excellent. In 1998 he won the 2nd prize at the International Competition for Organ Improvisation “ Anton Heiller ” in Vienna.

He has been the guest organist at the Augustinian Church since 1997 and at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna since 1999 . He is also active as a concert organist, accompanist and choir singer. He works with leading choirs in Vienna ( Arnold Schönberg Choir , Wiener Kammerchor , Wiener Singverein , Concentus vocalis and others).

From 1999 to 2004 Kovács was the director of the Waltharia Choir . He is co-founder and member of the Vienna Choralschola . From 2001 to 2003 he was church music advisor for the Archdiocese of Vienna , from March 2004 to December 2006 he was the main organist in St. Florian . From 2009 to 2015 he was the cathedral organist in the Cathedral of St. Martin (Eisenstadt) and speaker for church music in the Diocese of Eisenstadt .

In July 2004 he was a finalist at the International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem . In 2006 he won the competition. In October 2008 he received first and audience awards at the International Organ Improvisation Competition in Schlägl Abbey (Upper Austria).

Robert Kovács is regularly asked for orchestral participation, he has already performed with several orchestras, such as the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich , the Vienna Symphony Orchestra , the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (including in the "Book with Seven Seals" by Franz Schmidt ), as well as abroad with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen , the State Orchestra Braunschweig and others.
