The Vienna Chamber Choir was founded in Vienna in 1947 . The founding of the choir goes back to the Augustinian , composer and musicologist Franz Andreas Weißenbäck , who also directed the choir for several years.

In 1995 the Vienna Chamber Choir was merged with the Chamber Choir of the Vienna University of Music . Since then, the choir has mainly consisted of students and graduates from the Vienna University of Music.

From 1995 to 2007 the choir was directed by Johannes Prinz . Michael Grohotolsky has been the choir's artistic director since 2007 .
