Ockstadt is a district of Friedberg (Hessen) in the Wetterau district .

Geographical location

Ockstadt is about one kilometer west of the core town of Friedberg and at the foot of the southeastern roof of the Winterstein- Taunus ridge , an eastern branch of the densely wooded Hohe Taunus . The 259 meter high gallows head rises directly on the outskirts . Behind this hill, the federal highway 5 overcomes the Taunushauptkamm . The north-eastern boundary of the district follows the ridge line over the Steinkopf , which, at 518 meters, is the highest elevation in the district up to the 500-meter-high Kuhkopf , which is more than five kilometers from the village. The district area is 1847 hectares , 902 hectares of which are forested (as of 1961). Fruit is grown on a large scale in the area around the village, and the “Ockstädter Cherries” are particularly well-known.

history

Prehistory and the Middle Ages

Ockstadt, which was first mentioned in a deed of donation to the Lorsch monastery in 817 AD, was already settled and used for agriculture during the time of the Celts .

The first known owners were the Counts of Kleeberg and Mörlen. After their extinction it fell to the Lords of Eppstein . As an imperial direct fiefdom it was withdrawn at the beginning of the 14th century and in 1350 it was partially pledged by Charles IV to the Lords of Carben , but the imperial city of Friedberg was allowed to redeem these pledges as early as 1374. The lords of Cleen have been tangible as owners since the end of the 14th century . Under them, Gottfried von Cleen built today's Frankenstein Castle in 1490 . In 1521 this property was passed on to the Lords of Frankenstein , who lived in Ockstadt Castle until the end of the 18th century. The remaining fiefs of the Lords of Carben were sold to Friedberg Castle in 1525 . With the end of the Old Kingdom , Ockstadt came to Hessen-Darmstadt in 1806 .

Modern times

The remaining police and court rights were exercised by the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1822 onwards in the name of the landlords . Administration and jurisdiction were separated at the same time . It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848.

Ockstadt belonged to the area of common law , which was valid here without the superimposition of particular law. This retained its validity even while the membership of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the 19th century, until 1 January 1900 by the same across the whole German Reich current Civil Code was replaced.

In the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Ockstadt was incorporated into the city of Friedberg on December 31, 1971 by mutual agreement. For Ockstadt, as for every part of the city, a local district with a local advisory board and a local mayor was established. The boundaries of the local districts follow the previous district boundaries.
