Dieter Wolf (historian)

Dieter Wolf (born April 29, 1956 in Nieder-Wöllstadt ) is a German historian and illustrator with a research focus on Hessian history, especially the local and regional history of the Wetterau . He heads the Museum of the City of Butzbach and the Butzbach City Archives.

Live and act

Dieter Wolf grew up in Nieder-Wöllstadt in the Wetterau and passed his Abitur at the Augustinerschule Friedberg . After studying history, art history, prehistory and early history as well as classical archeology at the Justus Liebig University of Gießen and the Philipps University of Marburg (1975–1983), he became head of the museum and archive of the city of Butzbach in 1988.

After researching cities in Lower Hesse in the Middle Ages, he received his doctorate in 1999 on Melsungen : A small town in the late Middle Ages; Topography, constitution as well as economic and social structure. The dissertation was supervised by Fred Schwind . Since 1972 numerous publications on research into the Wetterau have appeared, in which Wolf often combines historical aspects with aspects of art and architecture.

Wolf has been a member of the Monument Advisory Board of the Lower Monument Protection Authority of the Wetterau District since 1987 and was a member of the board of the Hessian Museum Association from 1994 to 2015. He has been a member of the Hessian Historical Commission in Darmstadt since 1993 , of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 2005 and of the Commission for the History of the Jews in Hesse since 2007 .

He is married and now lives in Offenbach-Bürgel .
