history
Construction and commissioning
U 432 was laid down on January 14, 1940 at the Schichau shipyard in Danzig . The launch took place on February 3, 1941 and on April 26, 1941 the boat was put into service under Lieutenant Heinz-Otto Schultze.
The boat belonged to the 3rd submarine flotilla . In the period from April 26th to August 1st it was used as a training boat.
Calls
On August 25, 1941 U 432 left Kiel for its first patrol.
Downfall
In pursuit of convoy HX-228 , U 432 and U 444 were located on March 11, 1943 at position 51 ° 35 ′ N , 28 ° 20 ′ W, Attacked with depth charges in the North Atlantic by the British destroyer HMS Harvester and the Free French corvette Aconit . After U 432 succeeded in sinking the harvester damaged in the attack on U 444 , the corvette located it one hour later.
With depth charges forced Aconite the submarine to surface. Immediately after it appeared on the surface of the water, it covered the submarine with artillery and machine gun fire. The submarine crew disembarked under fire from the corvette, killing 26 German sailors. The 20 shipwrecked seamen were only picked up and taken into British captivity when U 432 had sunk after a ram thrust.
