U 434 was a Type VII C submarine of the German Navy that was used in World War II.

history

The boat was laid on January 20, 1940 at the Schichau works in Danzig . The launch took place on March 15, 1941 and on June 21, 1941 the boat was put into service under Lieutenant Wolfgang Heyda. The boat belonged to the 7th submarine flotilla . From June 21st to November 1st it was used as a training boat.

On October 26, 1941 U 434 left Kiel for its first and last patrol. After stops in Frederikshavn and Kristiansand , it set course for the North Atlantic . In pursuit of the convoy HG 76, was U 434 on 18 December 1941 the position 36 ° 15 '  N , 15 ° 48'  W (north of the island of Madeira , Portugal) by the British destroyers HMS Blankney and HMS Stanley by depth charges upset and destroyed. Two German seafarers were killed. 42 sailors survived and were captured by the British.

Until then, U 434 had neither sunk nor damaged an enemy ship.
