U 795 was a Type XVII A submarine of the German Navy during the Second World War . The boat was one of a total of four boats ( U 792 to U 795 ), which were also built for operational endurance testing of the Walter drive .
history
The boat was built from February 2, 1943 at the Friedrich Krupp Germania shipyard in Kiel . After it was put into operation on March 21, 1944, it was placed under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Horst Selle on April 22, 1944 . It served as a training boat for the 8th U-Flotilla until February 15 and then for the 5th U-Flotilla until May 3, 1945.
Lying in the dry dock of the Germania shipyard in Kiel, U 795 was destroyed on May 3, 1945 by blowing up the engine room in order to rule out subsequent use by the enemy.
