U 998 was a German submarine of the type VII C / 41 , a so-called “Atlantic boat ”, which was used by the navy during World War II .

Technical specifications

A Type VII C-boat, driven by two diesel engines, reached a speed of 17 knots when traveling above water , had a maximum range of 6500 nm and could make 7.8 knots under water with the help of the two electric motors, with a maximum range of 80 nm .

U 998 was damaged on June 16, 1944 by a Norwegian De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito aircraft . On June 27, 1944, it was decommissioned in Bergen. In 1944/1945 it was partially canceled. The remains of U 998 were used by the Norwegians after the war.
