The State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg (StM) is one of eleven ministries in the administration of the state of Baden-Württemberg . It is the authority of the prime minister of the country. The authority, based in Villa Reitzenstein above downtown Stuttgart , currently (2017) has around 250 employees. The head of the State Ministry is the State Minister and Head of the State Chancellery, who represents the head of government in administrative matters.

From May 2011 to April 2016, Silke Krebs was ( Greens ) Minister in the State Ministry. From May 2011 to May 2016, Peter Friedrich ( SPD ) was Minister for Federal, European and International Affairs and authorized representative of the state of Baden-Württemberg at the federal government. He was head of the state representations at the federal government and the European Union. The new green-black state government decided at the beginning of May 2016 not to fill both posts as independent ministerial posts. Since then, Klaus-Peter Murawski ( Greens ) has been Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery. On September 10, 2018, he was adopted into retirement. Florian Stegmann is his successor as State Secretary and Head of the State Chancellery . Theresa Schopper (Greens) has been State Secretary in the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg since May 2016, responsible for political coordination within the government. After Murawski's resignation, she was appointed Minister of State on October 9, 2018 .

Minister in the Ministry of State

In the State Ministry, unlike in most federal states, from 1953 to 2016 there was almost always at least one other minister in addition to the Prime Minister. From 1953 to 1984 and 1991 to 1992 these were ministers for federal affairs, since then, with two exceptions ( Wolfgang Reinhart , Peter Friedrich ), ministers for the business area of ​​the State Ministry and mostly also for European affairs. Between 1984 and 1991 the Minister of Justice, in the person of Heinz Eyrich, was at the same time Minister for Federal Affairs attached to his ministry. Representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg at the federal level

The representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg at the federal level is an agency subordinate to the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. It is the link between the state government and the Federal Council . It also maintains close relationships with the German Bundestag and the Federal Government . The representative of the federal state is Andre Baumann .

The Constitutional Court for the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg Leadership Academy are also assigned to the division of the State Ministry .

Representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union

The Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union was an agency subordinate to the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. It was opened on January 1, 1987 as an "office". In 2003 the office received a new building in the European quarter of Brussels. Since May 2016, the state's representation at the European Union has been subordinate to the Ministry of Justice and for Europe Baden-Württemberg .

State Center for Political Education Baden-Württemberg based in Stuttgart

The State Center for Political Education Baden-Württemberg (LpB) is the central, non-partisan state service center for political education in Baden-Württemberg. Their existence and their work take into account the fact that “democracy does not fall from the sky”, so it is not something that can be taken for granted, but has to be experienced and learned over and over again. The LpB Baden-Württemberg was founded by government announcement on January 25, 1972. It was an unincorporated public law institution within the scope of the State Ministry.
