Roland Gerstner (* 23. April 1931 in Baden-Baden ) is a German politician of the CDU .

education and profession

After graduating from the Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Rastatt, Gerstner studied business administration at the University of Mannheim from 1951 to 1956 . After his state examination in 1956, he worked in the housing industry until 1968, until 1972 director of the municipal planning and development company of Badische Sparkassen GmbH in Karlsruhe.

Political activity

Since 1956 Gerstner was also politically involved. He became a member of the CDU and the Junge Union , of which he was district chairman from 1957 to 1960. Then he became district chairman of the CDU, from 1962 a member of the municipal council of the city of Rastatt (until 1972) and then a member of the district council in the Rastatt district (until 1980). In 1963 Gerstner was also elected to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , to which he belonged until 1988. At that time he was also part of the state executive committee of his party in Baden-Württemberg and was parliamentary director of the CDU from 1968 to 1972. After Lothar Späth vacated the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group in 1978 because he became Minister of the Interior, Gerstner ran as his successor, but was defeated by his opponent Erwin Teufel by 27 to 35 votes.

After the state elections in 1980, Lothar Späth Gerstner appointed him to his cabinet and appointed him State Secretary in the State Ministry . After the state elections in 1984, Gerstner moved to the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forests and Environment under Minister Gerhard Weiser in the same position . Here he was responsible for environmental issues. His colleague in the same ministry, Ventur Schöttle , was Parliamentary State Secretary, i.e. without a seat and vote in the cabinet.

In 1987, Prime Minister Späth set up an independent Ministry of the Environment . Meanwhile, Secretary of State under Prime Erwin Vetter was Werner Baumhauer . Gerstner thus lost his political office and left the cabinet. In the following year, 1988, he no longer ran for the state parliament.

Gerstner has been married to Maria geb. Hotz. He has two sons and a daughter. Son Wolfgang (born March 8, 1967 in Malsch ) is a German chess master and chess author.
