Ulrich Müller (born December 11, 1944 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1998 to 2004 he was Minister of Environment and Transport in Baden-Württemberg and then Minister of State until 2005 .

Life

Müller grew up in Upper Bavaria and attended school in Mittenwald and the Oberrealschule in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he passed his Abitur in 1965. He did his military service and from 1967 studied law at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he passed his exam in 1975. He then worked as a research assistant for the Economic Council of the CDU e. V. in Bonn and at the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. From 1983 to 1996 Müller was managing director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lake Constance-Oberschwaben.

Müller's political career began in 1962 when he became a member of the Junge Union . He has been a member of the CDU since 1967. From 1980 he was parliamentary advisor for financial policy of the CDU parliamentary group.

In 1992 Müller was elected to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , of which he was a directly elected member of constituency 67 (Bodensee) until 2016 . From 2006 he was chairman of the environmental committee.

In 1996, Prime Minister Erwin Teufel brought him into his cabinet and made him State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Transport under Minister Hermann Schaufler . After his resignation in November 1998, Müller himself became Environment and Transport Minister. He held this office until July 2004. In November 2004 he moved to the State Ministry as a minister, where he was responsible for European affairs, among other things. After Teufel's resignation as Prime Minister, he no longer belonged to the cabinet of his successor Günther Oettinger .

Müller received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2000 and the Federal Cross of Merit First Class in 2005. He is also an honorary senator of the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences . During his tenure, he was a member of various committees, including the Broadcasting Council of Südwestfunk , and was also chairman of the supervisory board of Stuttgart Airports and Baden-Airpark and the Baden-Württemberg State Foundation. Since 2005 Müller has been chairman of the supervisory board of Internationale Bodensee-Tourismus GmbH.

Müller is married and has four children. He lives in Ravensburg .

EnBW investigation committee

Müller was chairman of the state parliament investigation committee into the EnBW affair . During a raid on the private home of the former Prime Minister Mappus in July 2012, documents were found that showed that Mappus had received documents from the investigative committee from Müller . (Müller and Mappus are old companions from their years together in the Ministry of Environment and Transport, 1998-2004.) When the public prosecutor made the seized documents available to the investigative committee in February 2013, Müller announced his resignation from the chairmanship. a. with the reason: "I would also like to spare my group like myself from falling into the twilight of the appearance of a lack of neutrality." After a debate in the group on February 19, 2013, he publicly apologized for his mistake and withdrew from the committee entirely back.
