  • This is a list of the diplomatic missions in Belgium .

    As an important international political center and seat of several international organizations (with the exception of less than ten) all of the almost 199 countries in the world have a diplomatic representation in the Belgian capital, Brussels .

    In addition to the ambassadors to the King of the Belgians, there are also a large number of permanent representations to the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU).

    The representations of the member states are to be distinguished from those of the non-member states. The meetings of the Council of the European Union are prepared in the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States (Coreper) . It has a central role in the Community decision-making process, as it is both a forum for dialogue between the Permanent Representatives and between them and their governments and a political control body that guides and oversees the work of the expert groups.

    In addition, the representations of the regions (such as the observers of the Länder in the European Union ) and the Committee of the Regions only have observer status in the political system of the European Union .
