Harel Skaat ( Hebrew הראל סקעת; * August 8, 1981 in Kfar Saba near Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli singer and musician. In 2004 he took 2nd place on the popular Israeli TV talent show Kochav Nolad . His first album reached platinum status in Israel. In May 2010 he represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo.

biography

As a child, Harel Skaat won a singing competition; later he was active in both the official music group of his school and his hometown. In 2002 he began studying at the Beit Zvi (College of Performing Arts) in Ramat Gan . During his sophomore year, he applied for the Israeli TV show Kochav Nolad.

Career

The television program Kochav Nolad (German: "A star is born") is comparable to the German counterpart Germany is looking for the superstar or American Idol and has already produced successful singers such as referee Maimon . Eurovision Song Contest

At the end of December 2009, the IBA , the Israeli state broadcasting organization, announced that Harel Skaat would represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest. On March 15, 2010, the Israeli television audience and several specialist juries selected the song "מילים" (Milim, English: words) from four songs, with which Harel Skaat represented his country in the second semifinals on May 27, 2010, two days later the finals taking place. There he finished 14th. Harel Skaat also won the Marcel Bezençon Awards in Oslo in the “Press Award” category (best song; chosen by all accredited journalists) and the “Artistic Award” category (best performance; chosen by the European commentators). In addition, the two composers of his song Milim won the “Composer Award” (chosen by all participating composers). In 2010, for the first and so far only time, all of the Marcel Bezençon Awards went to one and the same country.

In October 2010, Skaat came out as gay .
