Hovi Star ( Hebrew חובי סטאר; civil Hovav Sekulets ; Born November 19, 1986 in Kiryat Ata ) is an Israeli singer . He represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm .

life and career

His parents divorced in early childhood. When he was six years old, his mother married the American basketball player John McIntyre, which meant that the family had no permanent place of residence and moved across Israel. Until he was 14 years old, he went to school in Kfar Hanoar HaDati and then tried to record a first album, which however did not have any notable success, which is why he went back to school afterwards.

During his military service he was a member of the band HFC . Six months before the end of his time in the military, he took part in the casting show Kochav Nolad in 2009 and reached seventh place.

In 2016 he took part in the Israeli talent show HaKokhav HaBa L'Eirovizion (הַכּוֹכָב הַבָּא), the local variant of Rising Star , and won the final on March 3, 2016 with the song Made of Stars . The song composed by Doron Medalie represented Israel on May 12, 2016 in the second semifinals of the ESC in Stockholm. Medalie already composed the contribution from 2015, Golden Boy by Nadav Guedj , which reached place 9 in the final. At the ESC 2016 in Stockholm, Hovi Star with the song Made of Stars took 14th place with 135 points in the final on May 14, 2016, after qualifying for the final on May 12, 2016 with a 7th place in the second semi-final .

He lives openly gay in Israel.
