Kiryat Ata ( Hebrew קִרְיַת אָתָא; also Qiryat Ata ) is a city in the Haifa district in Israel . According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the city had 58,267 residents in 2018. The city is also known by its previous name, Kfar Ata ( Hebrew כְּפַר עָטָּה) known.
history
Archaeological investigations in Khirbet Sharta in the northeast of the city indicate a settlement during the Bronze Age , Iron Age , Hellenistic Period , belonging to the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire and a rule of the Mamelukes .
In the early 20th century, the lands of the Arab village of Kofrita were acquired by the Warsaw religious foundation Avodat Israel through intermediaries from the American Zion Commonwealth . Kfar Ata was founded by Avodat Israel in 1925 and renamed Kiryat Ata in 1965 when it was merged with the nearby Kiryat Binyamin . During the uprising of 1929, Kfar Ata was attacked by Palestinians and temporarily abandoned by its residents. The city residents returned to their city a year later and rebuilt the community. The city became famous for the Ata Textile Factory , which was built in 1934 and closed in 1984 . In 1969 Kiryat Ata received the rank of city.

According to the CBS, the city was 99.8% Jewish and other non-Arab residents in 2001 .
