Imri Ziv (born September 12, 1991 in Hod Hasharon ; Hebrew אימרי זיו) is an Israeli singer .

Life

Imri Ziv was born in Hod Hasharon. One of his grandparents is from Ukraine . He has a brother and a sister. During his school days he was often a victim of bullying , which forced him to change schools several times. He started music at the age of eleven when he was at an arts school. He later studied music at the Ilan Ramon University and was active in the university choir.

Career

Ziv first became known when he took part in the first season of the Israeli version of The Voice in 2012 , where he was eliminated from the Battles.

Ziv was the background singer for Nadav Guedj and Hovi Star at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 and 2016 , after he was responsible for the background vocals with Kathleen Reiter in 2014 . For the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 he himself took part in the Israeli preliminary decision Hakochav Haba 2017 . At the show, in which well-known songs had to be covered and which corresponds to the format Rising Star , Ziv was able to achieve 93% approval in the first round with The Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga and thus first place. In the quarterfinals he prevailed with Rude Boy ( Rihanna ), in the semifinals with I Don't Want to Miss a Thing ( Aerosmith ), before he won the final with Beyoncé's Halo and Kelly Clarkson's Because of You , so that he could win Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The song that Imri Ziv sang was selected internally by a commission and was featured in a special broadcast on Haarutz Ha-Rishon on March 9th . The name of the song was previously mentioned as I Feel Alive . It was written by Dolev Ram and Penn Hazut , who have worked for artists such as Sarit Hadad , Eyal Golan , Eden Ben Zaken and Noa Kirel . In the competition, the title landed in 23rd place.
