Assi Azar & Red Sela |
The 6th edition of the casting show HaKokhav HaBa L'Eurovizion 2019 (German: The next star for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019) took place from November 24, 2018 to February 12, 2019. The show was used to determine the participants for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv ( Israel ). The show was moderated by Assi Azar and Rotem Sela.
The winner of the show was the singer Kobi Marimi , who was eliminated in Heat 4 , but later returned to the show with a wildcard. He will represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
format
concept
The competition consisted of several programs that were broadcast from November 24, 2018.
In the first round of the broadcast (the auditions ), all participants stood in front of an interactive wall and sang a cover of a song. To get to the next round, they had to get at least 70% of the votes. The jury was able to contribute 10% each, if they liked the participant. The hosts of the show could also send a participant to the next round if he did not reach 70%.
The intermediate round followed after the first round . All participants who had already survived the auditions performed again there. Each juror then had 20% voting rights, while the audience couldn't vote here. In the end, five performers per broadcast were allowed to advance to the next round. So 20 participants reached the next round, all others were eliminated.
In the third round, the top 20 round, all 20 participants sing against each other in ten duels. The interpreter with the most votes per duel reached the next round. Here again the voting system from the first round counted, where each jury member could contribute 10% if they liked the participant. Otherwise the audience voted again here. In the end, the jury selected two more participants from the ten losers who nevertheless made it to the next round. So 12 participants reach the next round.
In the fourth round, the heats , the 12 participants were reduced to eight. There were duels between two participants, each of which had to fulfill mottos. Only in heat 2 there were no mottos, only the voting system from round 1.
The fifth round then comprised four semifinals and one wildcard round. The four finalists were determined in each of the semifinals. In the wildcard round, only one participant who reached the fourth semi-final was determined after a participant had previously withdrawn from the first semi-final.
In the final, 50% of the winner was determined by televoting and 50% by jury voting.
jury
The jury consisted of the following people:
- Harel Skaat (represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 )
- Shiri Maimon (represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 )
- Keren Peles
- Assaf Amdursky
- Static & Ben El Tavori

Eleventh audition
The eleventh audition took place on December 31, 2018 and January 1, 2019. Seven participants qualified for the next round, where one was saved by the moderator.
Intermediate round
The intermediate round, where the jurors once again heard all participants who had survived the auditions, took place from January 7, 2019 to January 10, 2019. There only the jury decided which 20 participants will reach the next round. The remaining participants were eliminated, as were the candidates who were no longer shown on television.
There were two voting rounds. In the first round, each interpreter had to achieve at least 60% of the jury's votes in order to get to the second round. Only five candidates from the second round were allowed to advance to the next round per broadcast. The jury made the decision on the five performers per broadcast internally.
Top 20 round
The Top 20 round took place from January 13, 2019 to January 15, 2019. The field of candidates was reduced from 20 to 12 participants. Two performers competed against each other in a duel. The artist with the most votes per duel qualified for the next round. In the end, the jury then selected two participants from all ten losers who nevertheless made it to the next round.
