BLACKstreet is an American R&B / Hip-Hop group.
history
BLACKstreet was founded in 1992 and celebrated its first successes in 1993. In 1994, the band released their debut album BLACKstreet as a result of the 1993 debut single "Baby Be Mine", which was only able to place in the US R&B charts. The album, however, reached platinum status and sold over a million copies, with subsequent singles placing in the top ten.
The breakthrough came in 1996 with the 4-times platinum album Another Level and the hit "No Diggity", which also placed internationally: Top 20 in Australia , France , Germany , Switzerland and Austria , Top 10 in Sweden and Norway , Great Britain , the Netherlands and number 1 in New Zealand and the United States . Overall, they managed to land two more number 1 hits in the next two years (each in New Zealand): “Don't Leave Me” and “Take Me There”, a duet with the singer Mýa .
In Germany it was hardly possible to build on earlier successes. Even with the success number Girlfriend / Boyfriend with Janet Jackson , Ja Rule and Eve , they only reached number 98 in the German charts, while the Top 20 were reached in Japan , South Africa , New Zealand and Great Britain. Although the single was very well received and reached the top 40 in the charts almost everywhere, the album only sold just over 500,000 copies and was the lowest-selling until then.
After the hit single with Janet Jackson , apart from a few collaborations with the aforementioned Janet and with Ma $ e , which were international successes, no more singles followed and the group took a three-year hiatus, before doing the studio work for their 2003 release in 2002 Album "Level II" to begin. But the comeback singles "Wizzy Wow" and "Deep" could hardly attract any attention. Except in the UK and the American R&B charts, the songs did not rank anywhere. There was a label change to Dreamworks Records.
