I Get Lonely is a song by the American singer Janet Jackson from her sixth album The Velvet Rope (1997). The song was released as the third single on the album in February 1998. For Janet Jackson, the song was again a top five hit on the American Billboard Hot 100 for Jackson. Janet released an official remix version of the song with BLACKstreet .

Song information

The original version, written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, appeared on Janet Jackson's sixth album, The Velvet Rope . In addition to the original single, Janet also released an official remix version with BLACKstreet . The song was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1999 Grammy Awards , but lost to Lauryn Hill's number one hit Doo Wop (That Thing) . In 1998, Jackson sang the song on The Rosie O'Donnell Show , the TMF Awards Show, and the Soul Train Awards Show . Jackson also sang the song on her worldwide The Velvet Rope tour, using the same dance choreography from the music video. Jackson later sang the song on the Rock Witchu tour and on her 2011 tour Number Ones: Up Close and Personal.

Music video

Paul Hunter directed the music video and Tina Landon developed the dance choreography . In February 1998 the music video was released. There are two versions of the music video; the original and the BLACKstreet remix version. The first version appeared on the DVD edition of Jackson's 2001 album All for You and the remix video in 2004 on Janet's video compilation From janet. to Damita Jo: The Videos .

The song debuted as a BLACKstreet remix at number 3 on the American Billboard Hot 100 and was able to stay there. In Europe the original was hardly successful, it reached the top 50 in some songs. In the UK, however, the song was a hit with number 5. In New Zealand, the song also reached the top ten.
