Foxy Brown (born September 6, 1978 in Brooklyn , New York ; actually Inga Marchand ) is an American rapper . She borrowed her stage name from the 1974 film of the same name with Pam Grier . Together with Nas , Cormega (who was then replaced by Nature for the later album ) and AZ, she formed the rap formation The Firm .

history

Before her debut album Ill Na Na was released in 1996 , Foxy Brown had already made a few guest appearances on I Shot Ya ( LL Cool J ) and Ain't No… ( Jay-Z ), among others . The album sold 1.5 million times. Her biggest hit I'll Be , which she recorded with Jay-Z, also comes from him . Despite its commercial success, the record is one of the most controversial music albums in US music history. Critics accused the then 18-year-old of endangering young people with her harsh and sometimes obscene texts. In the 1990s she was, among others, a representative of the strong women of the US rap scene, who drew attention to themselves with their self-confident demeanor and their harsh texts, often with sexual content. The album set a trend in rap with others, which was later continued by Lil 'Kim , Trina and Remy Ma , among others . The follow-up album Chyna Doll was released in 1999 and reached number 1 on the US charts . It was the first album by a rapper to do this. The album with the successful single Hot Spot also made it into the top 10 of the album charts in Germany.

Foxy Brown's third album Broken Silence was released in 2001 and reached number five on the US album charts. In the same year she was said to have a relationship with the dancehall deejay Spragga Benz , with whom she also worked musically.

In 2003 the album Ill Na Na 2: The Fever should be released. However, it was canceled due to various arguments with their record company Def Jam. The album was later available for download on the Internet.

Brown suffered a sudden hearing loss in May 2005, shortly before the release of her album Black Roses . She lost all of her hearing in the process. In 2006 it was largely restored by doctors using a cochlear implant .

In 2007 Def Jam / Roc-a-Fella Records terminated their contract for unknown reasons. She switched to the Koch Records label.

Brown came into conflict with the judiciary on several occasions: In October 2006 she was sentenced to three years probation and the requirement to take part in anti-aggressiveness training because she had assaulted two employees of a manicure salon in a dispute over a bill. In February 2007, she was held in police custody for one night after being arrested in a beauty salon for repeated assault. After June 29, 2007, she appeared to have disappeared for a week after boarding a plane to London, but reappeared in public a week later.

During her probation period, she repeatedly violated her probation status. She left New York State without permission, was caught talking on the phone while ignoring a stop sign, and gave the police a false name. In addition, she threw her cellphone on the head of a neighbor and stopped her anti-aggression classes. As a result, she was sentenced to one year in prison in early September 2007. After eight months in detention, she was released early from Rikers Island Detention Center on April 18, 2008 .

The mixtape album Brooklyn's Don Diva was released in May 2008 after several postponements. This was not supported by Brown, however, because there were disagreements between her and Koch Records regarding the selection of the title on the album. Nevertheless, the album made it to number 5 on the US Hip Hop / R & B album charts.

In 2017, Foxy Brown gave birth to a daughter.
