Amerie Mi Marie Rogers (* 12. January 1980 in Fitchburg , Massachusetts ) is an American R & B - singer and actress .

Life

childhood

Rogers was born in January 1980 as the first daughter of an African American and a South Korean woman. Since her father was an officer in the American Army, she and her younger sister Angela traveled a lot as a child. She grew up in Alaska , Texas and South Korea, among others ; in her younger years she also lived in Germany for a while . The family later moved into permanent residence in Washington, DC . After graduating from high school , Rogers decided to study at Georgetown University , where she received her bachelor's degree in English and Fine Arts in 2000 .

Career

Amerie made her big break in 2001 on the song "Rule" together with Nas on his album Stillmatic . After that, Rogers drew attention to himself as the chorus voice on the albums of Ja Rule and Bow Wow . At about the same time, Amerie met producer Rich Harrison , who helped her get a record deal with Sony's sub-label Columbia Records the following year . Her solo debut All I Have only appeared in 2002 . The album, which Harrison was solely responsible for producing, became a top 10 hit thanks not least to two successful radio hits, "Why Don't We Fall in Love" and "Talkin 'to Me". So far, the record has sold more than 600,000 units in the US alone.

Amerie then released the soundtrack for the comedy film Manhattan Love Story with the Diana Ross cover "I'm Coming Out" . She was also successful in the charts two more times with LL Cool J and her duet "Paradise" as well as with the DJ Kay Slay production "Too Much for Me". In early 2003, she turned down a moderation job on the music channel BET to take a supporting role in the romantic comedy First Daughter - Date with Obstacles (with Katie Holmes and Michael Keaton ).

In March 2005, Rogers contributed the soundtrack to the hit movie Hitch with the single "One Thing" . The Rich Harrison production became a top 10 worldwide hit and helped the singer achieve her final breakthrough on an international level; In the end, the song even won several Billboard and Soul Train Awards, as well as a Grammy nomination for "Best R&B Song". While the following solo singles could not follow on from the success, Amerie returned to the top of the chart at the end of 2005 with the help of Ricky Martin , Fat Joe and the joint single "I Don't Care".

In the spring of 2007 Amerie finished the studio recordings for her third studio album Because I Love It , for the production of which Bryan Michael Cox, Tim & Bob, The Buchanans, DJ Premier , Cee-Lo Green were responsible, among others . The first single from the new album, "Take Control", made it into the top 10 of the British charts. Subsequently, in late summer 2007, the single "Gotta Work" was released.

On November 6th, 2009 her album "In Love & War" was released.
