Stillmatic is the fifth official album by rapper Nas . It was released in December 2001. With Stillmatic as comeback Nas managed to break out of the "pop world" back to the top of the East Coast -Rapszene. Another important point is that Stillmatic in the period of rivalry with Jay-Z was thus simultaneously a Battle album is the title King of New York (dominant rapper of New York ). The song Ether , in which Jay-Z is severely attacked, is also on the album. Stillmatic has been awarded five mics by The Source . Nas is one of the few rappers who have been crowned twice for their works with five mics ( Illmatic and Stillmatic ).
The song Got Ur Self A ... , which contains the melody of the well-known US television series The Sopranos , was selected as the first single . The next important single from the album was One Mic , which Nas interprets in an unusually emotional way. Stillmatic made it to number five in the top 200 album charts in the USA .
The second single One Mic contains samples of Phil Collins piece In the Air Tonight . The One Mic video mirrors scenes from In The Air Tonight's 1981 video . For example, Na's face is shown on a wall made up of many small LED lights. At the beginning of the video, Nas is sitting on a chair in an empty room and desperately puts his hands on his head - just like Phil Collins did back then. On My Country and What Goes Around Nas expresses his anti-American stance: " The indians saved the pilgrim and in return the pilgrim killed em, They call it it thanksgiving, I call your holiday hellday [...] "
