Nas ' album, which was released in July 2008, is the ninth official studio album by the New York- born rapper and has no official name.

History of origin

Originally this album was supposed to be titled "Nigger"; At least this was announced by Nas at a performance in New York on October 12, 2007. However, on May 19, 2008 it was confirmed that Nas changed the title of the album to "Untitled". It was noted that people will always know what the actual title of this album is and will call it that. The album's cover features the bare back of Nas, with whip scars forming the letter N, a reference to racial discrimination and the torture of slaves.

Reviews

The reviews of the album were generally positive. However, websites such as laut.de or rap.de described the album as extremely difficult to understand, as countless cross-references, allusions and word games make it very difficult for a non-American to understand the album 100 percent. The controversies that were already hinted at when the album was made and the title selected are only continued in the work itself. “The long player,” writes laut.de, “is politicizing and furious. The lyrical perfection of Nas', which has always been praised since Illmatic from 1994, cannot be ignored in this album either ”. The not always appropriately chosen beats and the temporary lack of display of the flow of Nas as the actual rapper are often mentioned as negative points.

At the Grammy Awards 2009 , the album was nominated in the Best Rap Album category, but was defeated by Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III .

The nigger tape

On June 9, 2008, Nas released a mixtape with DJ Green Lantern called The Nigger Tape . The mixtape was published by nasindependenceday . The mixtape contains three songs that were later taken over to Untitled , as well as various unreleased tracks.
