The Best of Nas is a Japanese compilation of Nas ' greatest hits from 1994 to 1999. It includes songs from his first four albums Illmatic , It Was Written , I Am… and Nastradamus , as well as some B-sides like Life's A. Bitch (Arsenal Mix) .

The first eight tracks are all from 1994. The remixes for them are all from back then and were mixed by Q-Tip and Large Professor a few months after Illmatic was released , as the album versions were not broadcast on television in their original form.

On the One Love (LG Main Remix) and Life's A Bitch (Arsenal Mix) Nas wanted to help the two Queensbridge residents Def Jef and Ken Staton with their musical careers and had the remix produced and Ken Staton sing a hook.

The remaining ten tracks have all remained in their basic version.
