God's Son ( German Son of God ) is the sixth album by the rapper Nas . It was released in December 2002 and includes the singles Made You Look , Get Down and I Can , a song whose melody is based on Beethoven's Für Elise . From Time Magazine was God's Son at the best hip-hop album of 2002 appointed. Nas dedicated to his mother, Ann Jones, who in April 2002 after two years of the album chemotherapy in breast cancer died. Then Nas went into the studio "full of energy" to record new songs for God's Son .
A spark went up a star blazing / Thinking of how amazing she was /
A angel gave me love / I'm thankful, to ever know a woman so real /
I pray when I marry my wife'll have one of your skillz /
But mom you could never be replaced /
I'd give my life up just to see you one more day
(An excerpt from Dance )
Nas chose the title out of respect for his mother. God's Son is referred to as Nas most personal album, as a lot of details from his private life are revealed. Nas himself says that in this phase of his life he gained a lot of experiences that made him mature and stronger. He has focused much more on feelings, mind and soul than on material things and wants to share this knowledge with his listeners.
God's Son entered the American album charts at # 12 and was verified as platinum on January 14, 2003 with 1 million records sold. In Germany God's Son was able to stay in the album charts for two weeks. The sound carrier occupied positions 89 and 91. The first single Made You Look is said to be a kind of New York street anthem. The music video for this was shot in the boroughs of Queens , Bronx and in the famous Rucker Park in Harlem .
