Tha Dogg Pound is a West Coast hip-hop group consisting of the two members Kurupt and Daz Dillinger .
history
Tha Dogg Pound, also known as DPG (Dogg Pound Gangstaz), is a Los Angeles hip hop group and was founded in the early 1990s by Snoop Doggy Dogg , Kurupt and Dat Nigga Daz. Tha Dogg Pound made their debut on Dr. Dres album The Chronic , which was released in late 1992 via Death Row Records . They can also be heard on Snoop Dogg's debut album Doggystyle and on the soundtracks for Murder Was The Case and Above The Rim . In 1995 the duo released their first album entitled Dogg Food , which was awarded double platinum. This release is a classic album of the West Coast Rap genre, which reached its peak in the early to mid-1990s and was particularly popular. According to this, Dogg Food is considered by many fans to be the duo's best release. Death Row Records was Tha Dogg Pound's label home until his fall after the murder of 2Pac , but then Kurupt and Daz parted ways. While Kurupt was one of the first to leave the label, Daz Dillinger remained loyal to Suge Knight and rose as the surviving Death Row artist during Suge Knight's imprisonment for violating his probation requirements to become operational director of Death Row Records.
Kurupt switched to Antra Records as an artist and released his first solo album there in 1998. Daz Dillinger released his solo album in the same year on Death Row Records. When Daz recognized the difficult situation at Death Row Records towards the end of 1999, he left the sinking ship and founded his own label, DPG Records & Gangsta Advisory Records . When Kurupt signed a contract with his old patron Suge Knight on Death Row Records in 2002, a dispute between the two artists sparked again for this reason. Kurupt did not stay long with the now badly battered label.
After some postponements, Kurupt released his album "Against The Grain" in August 2005. Daz, however, stayed with DPG Records and released his album "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP" in the same year. In April 2005 the two musicians reconciled again at the Westcoast Conference, which was held by Snoop Dogg. A new album called Cali Iz Active (this time with Snoop Dogg in the main cast) was released on June 27, 2006 in the USA.
On August 17, 2007 it was announced that Tha Dogg Pound would be released through Cash Money Records in the future.
